Annual travel insurance is often referred to as multi trip travel insurance. Essentially they are exactly the same. If you travel abroad frequently then you’ll probably find annual travel insurance will be cheaper than buying single trip travel insurance.
Annual travel insurance covers any number of trips you might take each year. And some annual insurance policies may limit the total number of days you can be away in total or at any one time. For example, World First offer two annual travel insurance policies covering either 31 or 62 days in any trip, but there is no limit to the number of trips you can take.
Designed for frequent travellers, annual travel insurance is not designed to be used if you are going to be away from home for longer that than maximum days permitted in any one trip or holiday. In which case, you would need to look for extended stay travel insurance to cover holidays lasting up to a year.
Another benefit of annual travel insurance or multi trip insurance, is if you are going skiing and snowboarding. You could be surprised how cheap your travel insurance will be if you buy annual cover rather than insuring just the winter sports holiday.
Annual travel insurance is normally available to individuals, couples or families. If you are travelling as part of a group you would need to buy group travel insurance or each member of the group can buy annual travel insurance policies.
If you have any pre-existing medical conditions and buy annual travel insurance, you need to bear in mind that most annual travel insurance policies contain a “change in risk” clause so make sure you contact your travel insurance company if any of your medical conditions change during the period of insurance or if you become ill at anytime during the year covered by your annual travel insurance.
