Lost Passport

A lost or stolen passport can feel like a disaster. And a damaged passport, if not replaced, can lead to you being refused travel by carriers. Travel insurance policies often include cover for lost passports and whilst the insurer will not be able to actually replace the passport, you will often be able to claim for expenses towards the cost of replacing your passport if it is lost, stolen or detroyed. The FCO provide some useful tips on their website including:

  1. Make a note of the passport number, date and place of issue (or take a photocopy), and keep separately in a safe place.
  2. Check the passport expiry date.
  3. Write the full details of your next of kin in your passport.
  4. Leave a photocopy with a friend or relative at home.
  5. Take a second means of photo-identification with you.
  6. Keep your passport in the hotel safe and carry a photocopy with you.
  7. If your passport is lost or stolen overseas, contact the nearest British Embassy, High Commission or Consulate immediately for advice.
