Missed Departure

Travel insurance policies include cover for missed departure to compensate you for additional travel expenses incurred due to weather conditions, an accident or breakdown of the vehicle you are travelling in causing an unexpected delay, or a strike, causing you to miss your initial departure. This section of a travel insurance policy has a limit on the total amount you can claim, which can be as much as £1,000.

In order to claim under your travel insurance for missed departure, you will need some form of documentary evidence to support your claim. This is of course quite standard across all sections of a travel insurance policy. For example, if you miss your departure due to the breakdown of your own vehicle you will need to obtain a garage or motoring organisation report confirming the date, time and cause of such breakdown. Additionally, your travel insurance would not cover missed departure due to a strike occurring on public transport if you could reasonably anticipated it at the time when the insurance was purchased.
