Personal accident insurance is nearly always included within a travel insurance policy. This section of cover is valuable in so far as it pays different levels of compensation if you sustain bodily injury abroad that is caused solely by accidental, violent, external and visible means.
Travel insurers who include personal accident cover limit the benefits payable to different age groups and as an example; the benefit payable in the event of death could be reduced from £5000 to £1500 if you are aged over 65. Further more, it is not uncommon for travel insurance policies to also limit the payments allowed following permanent disablement to only those people aged under 65.
Personal accident travel insurance is essentially designed to benefit people who are more likely to be permanently employed and as such are likely to lose out financially if an accident or injury results in their being unable to work and receive an income for any period of time.
