Personal Liability

Travel insurance will cover personal liability, if you accidentally cause injury or damage to others or their property and they sue you. This has to be one of the least claimed sections of travel insurance cover, but likewise it is also one of the most important parts of any travel insurance policy.

Often with what seems like an incredibly high limit such as £2m, £5m or even £10m, personal liability cover within a travel insurance policy will pay for your legal liability inclusive for any event which relates to an incident caused by you during your trip abroad which results in the illness or injury to another person, or the loss or damage to property.

It should however be noted that the personal liability section of a travel insurance policy will not cover all eventualities. For example, most travel insurance companies will not cover you for liability resulting from an accident where you were in charge of a jet ski or as a result of any wilful, malicious or unlawful act.
